What Will Be The Life After Liver Transplant

Date:10-09-2019

As liver transplantation is a major operation, so after the liver transplantation the patient is usually allowed to recover in the intensive care unit. In that case, some patients also need a ventilator for assisted breathing. Some patients also need intravenous fluids, Antonio and other nutritional support. After the liver transplant India,  the patient may leave the ICU in a few days and remain in the hospital ward for another two to three weeks before being allowed to go home. Recovery at home is a longer but slower process. It may take three to six months to return to normal work and activities.

Graft injection:

After the liver transplant in India , the body perceived it as a foreign tissue and mounts an immune reaction against it. This may severely damage the new liver and this is called graft rejection reaction. To prevent it, the patient may need some medications called immunosuppressants. It suppresses the immune system and prevent it from attacking the new liver. After a transplant, the risk of infection highest for first three months.

The liver surgeon may prescribe high doses of immunosuppressants initially. The dose is gradually reduced until it is high enough to suppress the immunity and lead to unpleasant side effects.

Immunosuppressants:

You can find two main types of medications or immunosuppressants. Here the liver transplant cost for both of them are different. Here the most common are corticosteroids and the others are calcineurin inhibitors. Corticosteroids work by preventing the genes of the cells to release chemicals that may attack s foreign tissue or infection. A widely used corticosteroids in liver transplant patient is prednisolone. It is taken orally and has a wide range of side effects when it is used over a long time. But the calcineurin inhibitors work by blocking the effects of a protein which is called Calcineurin.

Calcineurin works by activating a specific type of white blood cell which is known as T cells that fight foreign invaders like infections. Here are some commonly used drugs are cyclosporine and tacrolimus. These are basically given as pills. Additionally, these drugs interacts with other medications and herbs, so care must be taken. Without any side effects, you should not stop the dose of drugs. All immunosuppressants reduce the capability to fight infections and the person may be at risk of developing life threatening or serious infections.

Regular check up and precautions:

After the liver transplantation, there is an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease. All these  needs to be anticipated and managed early. Even after the liver transplantation, regular blood tests are needed to check if the new liver is functioning adequately. Here the transplant recipients can be at greater risk for bone fracture due to poor nutrition before the transplant, chronic liver disease or long term use of steroids. Sometimes density tests are also prescribed to the patients. You can ask your liver transplant cost in India from your nearest liver transplant centre.
